five tips when requesting quotes

Requesting prices from contractors is the very first step towards a possible collaboration. Whether you are working on a small renovation or a complete new construction. However, the quotation price and the final cost can differ a lot. How do you avoid that cold shower? These five tips ensure that you are a lot stronger in your shoes.

1. Be on time

Many contractors take the time and effort to prepare a quote free of charge. But don't forget that there are many other candidates. It can safely take several weeks before you receive a proposal in the mail. So request your quote well in advance. That way you don't have to rush into decisions. And you have a better chance of a good place in his agenda.

Did you know that on Build Your Home we offer a complete database of  reliable professionals ? You will never find contractors with social or tax debts here.

2. Request multiple quotes at the same time

Don't bet on one horse. By requesting quotes from at least three contractors, you not only get a better idea of the right price. You can also compare content more easily.  How do you ultimately choose the ideal contractor?  If you are not sure about the quotes, you can have us screened them.

3. Call instead of email

Most contractors are on site from 7 am to 7 pm, especially during busy periods. After that, they still have to deal with the processing of requests for quotations and the elaboration of those quotations. So there is not much time left to check emails. Do you want to know about your application? Give your contractor a short call to avoid longer waiting times.

4. Involve a construction expert

We  offer you to help you parse quotations. Be sure to take advantage of that expertise.  It can save you a lot of money and headaches.

5. Don't sign until everything is clear

Not every offer is drawn up in the same detail. Although that does not have to say anything about the skills of the contractor. Compare apples to apples. Therefore, ask enough questions if something is not clear and have the quotation adjusted if necessary.

For example, is it a fixed price or a cost per hour? Is the price exclusive of VAT?  How much advance does the contractor ask?  Can supplements be charged? Do you want to use other materials? Would you rather include an execution term?

Be sure to read the fine print and the terms and conditions carefully.

To work!

So, now you can start the search with peace of mind!
